A present to me

Posted by Picasa

Apple Sharlotka

I saw this on Smitten Kitchen and decided then and there that I was going to make it for my birthday, that being today!.
The original photo makes it look so appealing, rich and sophisticated.
Ultimately it is just an apple cake, albeit it be a Russian apple cake : )

It was so easy, chop apples, put them in a tin, pour batter on top and bake!
That's all!!
Mine was a little underdone that's why it flopped in the middle
but that won't stop me making it again.
I might just add some yuzu next time.

Since I could never buy double clotted cream here I recommend serving it with sour cream!
Trust me xxx

I think I also like having something Russian in my repertoire
that doesn't include cabbage or beetroot!!

  1. Happy Birthday Achan

Thanks for your kind words on my blog. Yes my family don't quite 'get' the passion or the stash....3 daughter 16, 21 and 23...they are all creative and were exposed to heaps of craft as kids but unfortunately now they call my crocheting 'being a granny'!!

Yes Sydney girl at heart (Cronulla) but we also left because of how hectic it was...my hubby travelled 12 kms to work and that usually took him at least an hour!! We moved to Brissie ten years ago as 1. it was more affordable, 2. less hectic and 3.we could see a better future for our children. Can say though that we are happy with our choice and even though all our family live south we would never return.

Not sure how I stumbled on your blog....possibly just jumping from one to the next and landed on you. It is interesting reading about how different it is living within other cultures and the things that people miss the most from their homeland...Tim Tams, Vegemite??

Best wishes and good to hear you are starting to feel better
